2009 dodge challenger review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The new modern classic musclecar is a home run, in spite of the times. introductionafter a hiatus of more than 30 years the dodge challenger returned as a new model for 2008. And chrysler's biggest styling hit since the pt cruiser promptly sold out. Style rules, yet asks few compromises. Some will opine about the timing of the dodge musclecar's return, while others will note chicken little was last seen impaled in a viper grille somewhere. Others still, not content to leave anything alone, will buy the r/t as the basis for their next hot rod and blow all the money saved on an srt8 on more power, accessories, and modifications. The r/t can be used as a daily driver, at least for shorter distances and fuel consumption, and will compete with the mustang gt, over which it has both advantages and disadvantages. Challenger r/t runs a 5. 7-liter hemi v8 rated at 370 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque with the standard five-speed automatic; power increases to 375 hp and 404 pound-feet of torque on premium fuel with the optional six-speed manual/track pak group. The srt8 is fast, stable and ready to go to any track, dodge's fastest car this side of the twice-the-price viper. Not challenger-distinctive in appearance, it does offer the same rumbling v8, rear-drive musclecar recipe (without a manual gearbox option), and again like the challenger, good independent suspension and brakes for about the same price as an r/t.  challenger features an entirely new body, but many of its parts, systems and structures are shared with the chrysler 300 and dodge charger (and magnum). Options include leather upholstery, eight-way power driver's seat, heated front seats, moonroof, disc changer and navigation with real-time traffic, 276-watt boston acoustics audio system, 18-inch aluminum wheels, compact spare tire, abs and electronic stability control and traction control.  challenger r/t 29,320) features a 5. 7-liter hemi v8 rated at 370 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque with a five-speed automatic. R/t adds heated outside mirrors, body-colored rear spoiler and mirrors, metal fuel filler door, leather-wrapped wheel and shifter, illuminated visor mirrors, dual chromed rectangular exhaust pipes, and fog lamps. Mechanical upgrades to accompany the added power include 18-inch aluminum wheels and wider tires, stability control, bigger antilock brakes, and firmer suspension. Options include leather upholstery, navigation system, 368-watt boston acoustics audio system, bi-xenon headlamps, 20-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels, hood-into-fender stripes and functional hood scoops, keyless go, remote start, compact spare tire, homelink, a trip computer with performance pages (128 functions total), and steering-wheel audio/data controls. The track pak 995) adds a six-speed manual gearbox with twin-disc clutch and pistol-grip shifter, limited-slip differential, load-leveling shocks, performance steering, hill-start assist, bright pedal covers and different mufflers.  challenger srt8 39,320) has a 425-hp 6. 1-liter hemi v8, brembo brakes, a special suspension, and a limited-slip differential. Many bits optional on the r/t are standard here, including a better audio system, bi-xenon headlamps, trip/data computer, leather, keyless go, and sirius satellite radio. The srt8 rear spoiler is flat black, the front spoiler deeper and ducted for brake cooling, hood scoops are functional, the fuel filler is polished aluminum, and 20-inch forged aluminum wheels and heated sport seats are standard. Options are the track pak, 522-watt 13-speaker kicker audio system, navigation, hood stripes, remote start, and high-performance staggered-size tires.  safety features on all challengers include dual frontal airbags and side curtain airbags front and rear. Antilock brakes with brake assist, stability control and traction control are available on the se and standard on r/t and srt8. walkaroundthe challenger is the third in chrysler's triple-play of styling hits, following the retro-look pt cruiser and the chrysler 300/dodge magnum/charger from which it's derived. It was unanimously praised by on-lookers as a cool-looking car and is as faithful to the original as has been done in recent years.  part of the challenger's appeal comes from its commanding presence; it's a big car. The challenger is also about 10 inches longer than the ford mustang, its closest competitor until the chevrolet camaro returns.  unlike most new cars, the maximum width is carried well out to the ends resulting in a broad, menacing car. The very wide, horizontal grille, spoilers and tail lamps accentuate the width, as does a turret-like roof and window treatment, and the haunches over the rear wheels where the roof fairs into the trunk and the character line kicks up. The proportions all seem just right, from the carrier-deck expanse of flat hood larger than most modern pickups, to the foot-high side glass and dark lower body trim, and into the massive rear roof pillars.  the major lines are only part of the equation, with details just as well executed. Where signals rode below the bumper on the '70 the new one has fog lamps, and careful sculpting has maintained the classic look without destroying aerodynamic efficiency.  from the side, the srt8's 20-inch wheels frame bright red brake calipers and slotted discs and fill large fender openings that are creased along the edges. Hood scoops carry hemi badges on v8 cars and are functional in that cool air goes in or warm air vents to atmosphere, but they do not feed cold air straight into the engine; the ducts in the spoiler direct cooling air to the front brakes and small winglets at the front wheel openings better define airflow. The fixed side rear windows do not allow the full open hardtop of the original with its frameless doors but in a nod to that look dodge kept the pillars behind the glass so they aren't so obvious. A bright fuel filler cap on r/t and srt8 finishes off the driver's side. The door handles look retro and stylish, but they're hard to grab.  out back, a full-width panel of red lights with a pair of backup lights wedged in the middle of it, along with chrome dodge lettering in a font right out of 'that '70s show.' while only the outer pairs of bulbs light for brake and turn functions, the entire width is used for tail lights. 2003 infiniti other - suv review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Bionic cheetah gives chase to porsche suv. introductionthe new infiniti fx45 is quicker than porsche's new cayenne s. Specifically, the fx45 can zip from 0 to 60 mph in slightly more than 6 seconds, while the porsche cayenne s takes a bit longer.  how can that be? Though the porsche is more powerful, the infiniti has a better power to weight ratio. The 315-horsepower infiniti fx45 weighs about 600 pounds less than the 340-horsepower porsche cayenne s. Porsche uses 1 hp per 14. 5 lbs.; the 4300-lb. Infiniti has 1 hp per 13. 6 lbs.) infiniti claims the fx45 is quicker than the other hot-rod suvs, namely the mercedes m55 amg and the bmw x5 4. 6is.  at the same time, the infiniti models cost less than their german counterparts.  these performance and pricing advantages come partly by making a conscious decision that infiniti's new luxury sport-utilities would not be designed to go off-roading. Therefore, the fx45 frame could be lighter, lightening the load for the infiniti v8.  the weight advantage was just a starting point, however. Infiniti added enormous 20-inch wheels and tires and racecar-sized brakes. Infiniti's goal was to make the fx45 as fun to drive as a sports car. It achieves this by compromising in ride comfort, space and rock-climbing ability. The end result is a car-based crossover suv that's exciting to drive on sports car roads and full of character, but has a stiff suspension and ride, a tight cockpit, and flamboyant styling.  squeezing into the cockpit and bouncing along a bumpy snow-belt backroad in the fx45 will appeal only to confirmed sports car enthusiasts. Infiniti expects to sell just 30,000 per year, while bmw last year sold about 43,000 x5s.  the suspension reflects infiniti's decision not to make the fx an off-roader: generally off-road ability is enhanced with long-travel and compliant suspension tuning, but that same ability compromises handling on winding roads. Fx is tuned for those winding roads, and despite its tall 7. 6-inches of ground clearance, it has no skid plates or underside armor. Fx is based on the same front-mid engine platform used for the nissan 350z sports car and infiniti g35. Fx45 44,225) gets the 4. 5-liter v8 from the q45 luxury sedan.  both come with a five-speed automatic transmission, dual-zone climate control, power front seats, split folding and reclining rear seats, tilt/telescope steering wheel, traction control, stability control, brake assist, and high-intensity discharge headlights.  fx45 gets a firmer suspension, 20-inch wheels, leather heated seats and trim, power tilt/telescope steering wheel, memory for seat, mirrors, and steering wheel, auto up/down windows. The technology package for the fx35 also adds the 20-inch wheels and the stiffer suspension, and costs $9,400 on top of the fx35's base price; the package adds $7,600 to the fx45's base price. Bmw's hottest x5 also comes with 20-inch wheels, but on the curvy infiniti the wheels look disproportionately larger. The rear display shows two virtual lines on the rear image that correspond to the width of the fx. We still didn't trust it when parallel parking, but we suspect some fx owners will learn to.  the steering wheel and gauges remind us of the nissan 350z's with a thick rim framing big dials. The gauge pod adjusts with the tilt wheel. Given this sports car climate, we expected to find a six-speed manual shifter in the fx, but a five-speed automatic is the only gearbox available. Infiniti, however, says they haven't ruled out offering a manual in the future.  three adults fit comfortably in the split reclining rear seats, which we didn't expect with the sloping rear roof. Total rear cargo area is smaller than in square-shaped suvs. Infiniti says it worked with bose specifically to get the car to play rock and roll. Bass and treble were emphasized. As revs rise, the sound becomes a higher-pitched hum. Approaching higher speeds, the 315-hp fx45 pulls more strongly than the fx35. The price for this performance is 15 mpg on the epa's city cycle, while the v6 model returns 16 mpg. Top speed in both models is governed to 130 mph.  all of this power is managed with sophistication: the available all-wheel-drive system is tuned for paved roads. All power is sent to the rear wheels until slip is detected, and then it is gradually transferred to the front wheels. The standard electronic stability controls, which brake individual wheels to control vehicle attitude, engage so gradually we couldn't detect when they were working. We pushed the fx45 hard, and didn't give it a break because it was an suv. Like the 350z sports car, the steering is quick, but it doesn't feel as telepathic as a porsche's. 2008 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. With the segment's only rear-hinged side access doors, the regular cab gives excellent recline space and an easy reach to everything dropped behind the seat. At the other end of the scale, premium models include two-tone leather seats, polished 22-inch wheels and other touches: within those extremes lies something for everyone.  2008 marks the first availability of an xl-grade supercrew with 5. 5- or 6. 5-foot bed: maximum people space with a work truck ethic. Detail changes for 2008 run the gamut from functional to decorative, the latter a wheels and stripes package for stx models, the former a standard tachometer for xl and stx with manual transmission, tire pressure monitors on the heavy-duty package, plus the availability of a cargo management system, remote start, telescoping towing mirrors, and a rearview camera (that does not require purchase of a navigation system).  with one of the deepest beds in the half-ton pickup segment, the f-150 has generous cargo volume out back and a maximum payload rating of 3,050 pounds. A foose edition f-150 designed by hot-rod master chip foose will be available as a late-2008 model. The base f-150 xl 17,345) is a short, regular cab two-wheel drive. Wheels are steel, the grille is black and bumpers painted, vinyl covers the floor and seats, and the audio is am/fm. However, it does have intermittent wipers, map lights, a 40/20/40 split bench front seat with driver lumbar adjustment, and on supercabs 23,440) air conditioning. Since it frequently adds other upgrades and a larger engine, 4wd adds almost $6,000 (and a v8) to the most basic example and $3,000 to the lowest-priced supercab.  stx models up the ante without going broke, with body-color front and rear bumpers and grille trim, air conditioning, cd player, and cloth upholstery. A 4x2 regular cab short bed starts at $21,050 and a 4x4 supercab flareside goes for $29,045; there is no stx supercrew.  central to the lineup, and sales, is the xlt. To an stx it adds chrome bumpers, black honeycomb grille, remote keyless entry, power mirrors/locks/windows, carpeting, auto headlamps, tinted windows, and better fabric for the 40/20/40 seat. Hefty rubber mats protect the carpet; other upgrades include a leather-wrapped wheel, unique instrument display, and sport cloth upholstery with driver and passenger lumbar support. Monotone paint includes the bumpers (gray with tow-tone paint), flares cover 18-inch aluminum wheels, and the door gets keypad entry. On regular cabs 24,105-30,645) the fx4 is $5,750 over the fx2 and there's no long-wheelbase fx4; on supercab and supercrew 28,700-35,445), the 4wd version is a $3,295 premium.  the lariat label is reserved for more luxurious, car-like interiors, and does not include regular cab or flareside models; retail prices range from $29,895-$35,595. Fancy bits include 18-inch aluminum wheels, power heated mirrors with signal repeaters, climate control, leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel, powered driver's seat, trip computer, light-faced gauges, and chrome and arizona beige trim.  for 2008, ford will build 5,000 lariat limited f-150s, replete with serial-number plates, spun-metal instrument cluster trim, two-tone leather cabin, color-matched grille and bumpers, and three-dimensional chrome bed side badging. Limited models are offered only as 139-inch wheelbase supercrews in two- 35,160) or all-wheel drive 38,160).  top tier among regular production models is the king ranch, with castano leather modeled after the saddles that roamed the texas ranch. Exterior trim is similar to lariats, with color-matching components and arizona beige accents. At this level, items such as heated power seats and power-folding mirrors are standard. And the 2008 ford f-150 shows the evolution of 70 years of function. Angular means easy to clean, easy to park and gives maximum inside volume for outside space. The f-150 is easily recognized in any trim level by the circular front lights within a rectangular housing, stepped front window ledge, opening rear doors on the regular cab, and the tall bed. For 2008, extendable dual-element towing mirrors bring the f-150 in line with the bigger super duty pickups, as well as the ram, titan, and tundra. Any cosmetic sacrifice is well worth the extra visibility with a trailer behind.  pillars between the doors may yield a blind spot for those who sit more rearward and everyone should appreciate the windshield pillar designed to help preserve forward vision. The flareside really is more stylish than the styleside bed, that which is essentially a box with some character lines in the sheetmetal, and more space within. The chrome harley badges are a bit much for some of us, but it drew many admiring looks. interiorford has all bases covered inside the f-150, with plenty of patterns, textures and finishes, including at least three different gauges clusters, and the choice of a 40/20/40 split-bench front seat or captain's chairs in many models. Captain's chairs on fx and lariat models, especially with power adjustment and the optional adjustable pedals, provide good driver positioning for virtually everyone. Finding it may take some time because the backrest angle adjustment is manual and the power controls are on the side of the seat with the door very close.

2005 cadillac cts review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New v6 engines improve the great american sports sedan. introductionthe 2005 cadillac cts could be called the great american sports sedan. It certainly fits that description with its sporty handling, exhilarating acceleration and powerful braking. Their names are like alphabet soup: cts, sts, xlr, srx. But driving one of them confirms cadillac now builds world-class automobiles.  it was the cts that kicked off this renaissance. Introduced as a 2003 model, its edgy styling immediately grabbed the spotlight. Praise of its dynamic qualities quickly followed from the automotive press, which focused on its superb rear-wheel-drive chassis. Two years later the cts is improved and more refined. The 2005 cts comes with a choice of these new vvt v6 engines, a new 2. 8-liter v6 and a 3. 6-liter v6 introduced as an optional engine last year. Nor would it feel out of place on a race track. Cts-v is only available with a manual shifter.  for 2005, a new six-speed manual gearbox is also available for the regular cts models. Both the 2. 8-liter and 3. 6-liter v6 engines are available with the six-speed manual or the more popular five-speed automatic. We'd march immediately to the responsive automatic if the manual wasn't so good. The 2005 cts also gets a new instrument cluster and a choice of new 16-inch wheels. Built on gm's acclaimed sigma rear-wheel-drive architecture, the cts was rigorously tested at the famed nurburgring racetrack in germany. lineupthe 2005 cts line starts with a new entry-level model that features a new 2. 8-liter v6. It's a sophisticated engine with variable valve timing rated at 210 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. Production of the 2. 8-liter model begins in october 2004 and pricing wasn't available at press time.  a more powerful model comes with a 3. 6-liter v6 vvt 31,700), which develops 255 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 252 pound-feet of torque at 3200 rpm. Also standard are traction control and anti-lock brakes (abs) with brake proportioning, which balances the braking front and rear. Side-impact airbags and side air curtains come standard for front and rear passengers in addition to the standard dual frontal airbags.  the sport package 1,875) takes the suspension tuning a step further with monotube shocks, brake pads with more anti-fade heat resistance, 17-inch alloy wheels with 255/50r17 tires, load-leveling rear suspension, speed-sensitive power steering, and stabilitrak electronic stability control. The luxury package 3,165) includes heater power front seats, memory presets for two drivers, auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, homelink universal garage door transmitter, alarm system, and a wood-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob.  the new cts-v 49,300) comes stuffed with the 5. 7-liter v8 ls6 engine from the high-performance corvette z06 rated at 400 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque. It comes mated to a tremec six-speed manual gearbox (an automatic is not available). To put this power to the ground, cts-v gets 18-inch wheels, grippy tires, big brembo brakes, and other high-performance tweaks. walkaroundthe cts was the first production car using cadillac's new art & science design vocabulary first shown on the evoq concept car. The design is a festival of wedges, sharp junctions and chiseled angles that can be seen throughout the latest generation of cadillacs. The edgy design is distinctive. There's no confusing a cadillac with anything else.  the cts refines the cadillac tradition of vertical headlamps and taillamps that dates back to 1965. Viewed from the front, the cts is imposing, with its large louvered grille framed by sharp, vertical headlamps. The front air dam is all business, with simple rectangular foglights and a long narrow intake near the skirt. The cts has a short, high deck with tall, vertical taillamps. The view from the rear is broken up by the indentation cut widely around the license plate in a contrasting color. The cts-v looks a bit better here by using body colored plastic. interiorthe angular theme continues inside, although it was softened for 2004. The cts is sold in europe and the interior reflects that. It projects an idea that driving is serious business. Visually, it's an austere cabin, lacking the warmness of the new cadillac sts. The interior is a mix of high-tech textures, some of it dimpled like a golf ball. Many of the materials are soft and interesting to the touch. There's good support for the driver's right leg, and where the right shin touches it feels soft. There's a good support for the left leg as well, with a good dead pedal for the left foot.  the three-spoke steering wheel contains buttons for the sound system and cruise control, and is deliciously padded in leather for all but the part of the rim between about 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock, which is trimmed in wood.  changing the temperature, adjusting the stereo, and operating the navigation system are easy and convenient in the cts. The center stack juts out from the rest of the dash, with the elaborate gps navigation system at the top center location. Climate controls are at the bottom, controlled by amber-lighted pictograms.  the stereo works well, allowing quick and easy switching from a news channel on xm satellite radio to music on fm to traffic on am to a cd. The small triangular speakers for the optional bose system are mounted on the a pillar, and look cool. Onstar is provided, allowing drivers to make hands-free, voice-activated calls. A tall driver or passenger will be comfortable in front and only slightly cramped in the rear. The rear seats are comfortable for two or three passengers, offering good leg room, though lacking in thigh support. There is a convenient pass-thru tunnel between the rear seats, to the trunk, if the split folding rear seats are ordered. driving impressionthe cts drives wonderfully around town. It cruises comfortably on the freeway and feels at home on winding roads.  the new 3. 6-liter v6 is silky smooth when cruising, less so at full throttle. It's a thoroughly modern engine with a 60-degree aluminum block, double overhead cams, variable-valve timing, electronic throttle control, six coils and a structural oil pan. The 2. 8-liter v6 vvt is a modified version of the 3. 6-liter v6 with vvt. The 2. 8 and 3. 6-liter v6 earn the same epa-estimated mileage of 18/27 mpg city/highway and run on regular 87 octane. Choosing between them is a matter of power versus cost. The five-speed automatic transmission is superb. In normal mode, it seems to shift a lot, especially at a casual pace. Selecting the sport mode changes the transmission's attitude, giving it sharp and decisive response. The automatic is an excellent choice for the cts.
